With “The problem lies in the medium”, Pablo Marte’s project for HPC, sets out to rethink categories such as imitation, copy, remake, reproduction, repetition, plagiarism, fake or falsification, interpretation or inspiration, simulacrum, parody, pastiche, burlesque, satire… Words that point to a particular link between one cultural product and another that preceded it; a lengthy citation alluding to subjects within a historic relation, or a rethinking of the relationship itself, which amounts to the same thing. It is very fitting to kick off with this theme, given that consonni’s programming for this venue is inspired precisely by a previous cultural product (i.e. Woolf’s novel).

After staying in Barcelona (Escalera de incendios), Madrid (Medialab-Prado, Intermediae Matadero) and Berlin (Altes Finanzamt, Neukölln) for the launch of the publication SOFT POWER of María Ptqk published by consonni, now we are organizing another activity to share the contents of this book in our space, consonni (Bilbao).
There will be a OPEN ARCHIVE SOFT POWER: It will be exhibited part of the project file as a sample document with information about the works and a selected bibliography.
It will be opened on Saturday 12th with the presence of María Ptqk, from 7pm till 10pm. Also you can visit it during the week until Saturday 19th (all mornings 10am to 2pm, Tuesday and Thrusday afternoons 4pm to 7pm, or contact nerea@consonni.org).

The week of 14 to 19 of February, consonni arrives in Madrid to present ENPAP network (European Network for Public Art Producers) and the future symposium "Going Public-Telling it as it is?". ENPAP network will be in the Reina Sofia Museum (room of the Center for the Sabatini Building) on Tuesday February 14 at 1am. The same day, Tuesday 14 at 7pm, consonni presents the film and the project "ELECTROCLASS" with its director the artist Maria Ruido and Isidro Lopez from the Metropolitan Observatory in Traficantes de sueños bookstore (Embajadores 35, Local 6 Lavapiés). Subsequently, we proceeded with the ENPAP presentation in Just Madrid (Hotel Silken Puerta America) on Thursday February 16 at 6pm and ARCO (IFEMA, Feria de Madrid, located in Hall 8) on Saturday February 18 at 3pm.

The multidisciplinary artist María Ruido, filmmaker and researcher, has her debut in ZINEBI, with her last work ElectroClass, produced by consonni (Bilbao) with the colaboration of ETB.
ElectroClass Notes over the imaginary postindustrial generation from the TV (Bilbao as a case study). Taking the ETB archive as base material and Bilbao as a concrete case study, this project is a reflection about the dissolution of the concept of the traditional working class, the changes in our working conditions from industrial capitalism to outsourcing and the radical transformation of the city as a “polis” into “marca Bilbao”. The premiere is located in the seminar ARTISTS KILLED MEDIA STARS programed by María Ruido and consonni on 17th at 8pm.
Electroclass materialized the videographic production of seven minute chapters. They are based on the notion of dismantling the ETB televised files in opposition with the other audiovisual materials. To contextualize this work we have developed a parallel investigation through the 20 interviews, as well as movie and video programing of the film and video and a seminar: ARTISTS KILLED MEDIA STARS.

II Certamen de Arte Hormonado is an initiative that seeks to spread the young artists, little trading and conventional, in short, that their proposals are not fit easily into traditional circuits. The group, formed by students and graduates of Fine Arts at the UPV / EHU, is the speaker of a generation that seeks a place for art of the people who are newly licensed. La Cuchara proposed to participate in a chat to discuss contemporary art and the artist's situation in Euskadi. Address the issue through the course of consonni thus analyze, criticize and subvert systems and markets for contemporary art. Scrutinize the consonni's work is analyze the functioning of contemporary art and the role of artists in it. Without forgetting the situation that is going on these days with both a cultural policy schizophrenia.

A living dead man, a zombi, is the least glamorous of the prominent figures that has the cinema. Without conscience, neither ambition nor personality, the non-dead man is an anti tragic hero, a parody of the ideal citizen.
Terror, science fiction or simply fiction are often used to dissect reality with greater crudeness than a documentary which aims at representing the truth.
To analyze the life of the zombi across the contemporary cinema there are debated some scenes of " Shaun of the dead " (Zombis party), " The Comunna of Paris " of Peter Watkins and of course " Down of dead " of George A. Romero, the movie that there is the inspiration of the project Stay indoors and shut your windows. Romero makes like that a perfect metaphor of the society of consumption showing to the people = zombis gravitating about the malls.
The zombi has turned into a metaphor of the fight of masses, of the critique of the society of consumption, of the lack of social conscience, etc. It is the demonstration of a collective force capable of obtaining any aim, a force that advances joined in a bit coarse way but very, very enterteining.

The basic idea of the workshop, which was organised by artist Asier Pérez González, was to invent new means of producing art projects and new ways of giving access to the public.
In PowerPoint Revolution!!! we analysed different cultural productions from the Information Age, globalisation, standardisation, etc. The workshop raised ideas such as spectacle and visibility, audience and economy in order to consider and question concepts such as the dematerialisation of the art object, the place of art, its identification and its presentation; i.e. its visibility and accessibility.
consonni collaborated in the organisation of the workshop, inviting three artists, Andrea Fraser, Hinrich Sachs and Atelier van Lieshout. This marked the first of various productions consonni carried out with each of the three.

If several art sociologists, since Marcel Duchamp, are now arguing that it is the institutional spaces (gallery, museum, foundation, etc...) which place the object in the position of the artwork, instead we will affirm that it is the artists who, with full awareness of the power dynamics, incorporate these sites within their conceptual concerns which relate directly to the aesthetic and formal concerns of their work.
The exhibition Galerie Thomas Henry Ross art contemporain will address these issues of context and reflect on what is specific to impermanent spaces, such as pop-up platforms, through artworks that question, incorporate, and manipulate public and mediated spaces. The exhibition offers works made at the intersection of art as an autonomous activity. Starting from the point of view that the exhibition context always feeds to certain degrees both the artworks and the curatorial discourse, we will find in this exploratory initiative diverse approaches that are particular to the mandate of the parasitized gallery. The use of Galerie B-312 a not-for-profit artist-run centre, while closed for the summer, will promote questioning with respect to the possibilities for a commercial gallery to act as a platform for experimentation and research. Through juxtaposition and dialogue between the two entities we hope it will be possible to further our knowledge of these structures and their impact on the reception, but also on the production of the works they present. Although this proposal is being initiated by a commercial space, not all the works presented will be available for sale. The works will be exhibited for their reflexive value rather than for their strict mercantile value.

For the final public event at Iaspis before the summer, we invite you to join us for a screening of the film ElectroClass by Maria Ruido and the release of the anthologyWork, Work, Work: A Reader on Art and Labour. The film and the anthology both spring from discussions on changed labour conditions, in society at large as well as within the field of visual art, and enquire into how these changes can be described artistically as well as how they relate to social protest and the re-organization of cities in relation to new conditions of production.

ElectroClass
ElectroClass is an audiovisual project by artist Maria Ruido produced by consonni, taking the shape of a film comprising 7 chapters, based on a notion of the televisual stripping down of ETB in collision with other audiovisual materials. ElectroClass is a film about the work imaginaries shaped by Basque autonomous television (ETB) within the Spanish State since the 1980s. Taking the ETB archive material as the starting point and the city of Bilbao as a concrete case study, ElectroClass explores the collapse of the traditional concept of the working class, the changes in our work conditions from industrial capitalism to cognitive capitalism and outsourcing, and the radical transformation of the city "polis" within the "Bilbao trademark”.

consonni wants to use the great opportunity of being in residency at Iaspis by using the studio as a mobile office to generate a meeting point to talk about how consonni works. To talk about its projects and those currently underway, such as ENPAP (European Network for Public Art Producers) and a research project about the concept of production: “Bird and ornithologist at the same time”.
The presentation takes place in between the personal and the public, the professional and the casual, the intimate and the strange, the extraordinary and the usual – a conversation about ways of working; the conditions of contemporary art in different contexts; communication with the artists; curating vs producing; the political and the public in contemporary art practices.
The presentation of consonni will also be celebrated with some Basque and Spanish food.
consonni takes this opportunity of being in Stockholm to talk with some of consonni’s usual accomplices living in the city, such as Marti Manen (freelance curator and art critic) and Stella d'Ailly (director of Mossutställningar).
Iaspis is the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s international programme for professional artists within visual arts, design, crafts and architecture. Our mission is to nurture contacts between artists in Sweden and actors on the international arena and thus contribute to artistic development and improved working conditions.

María Mur Dean (consonni) moderates a panel discussion on contemporary art and production: “Bird and ornhitologist at the same time”. The needs of contemporary artists and the complexity of their works require speaking in terms of production. Art producers and art centres emerge, galleries and museums assume these tasks; much is published on production, highlighting or undermining its importance, and not talking about the same thing. This round table triggers an encounter between different agents of the Spanish art system: from the artistic practice, the production platforms, the museum institution, the art critique, the art markets... How do production and exhibition co-exist? Is a political position inherent to the concept of production? Can we speak of production without acknowledging its modes and conditions? And without taking into account the context? Does the term production favour the understanding of culture as a resource?
WHAT ABOUT PRODUCTION? arises from the desire of Screen from Barcelona to open a space for reflection to examine collectively professional concerns and challenges regarding the production of films and videos by artists who have been identified at different levels. WHAT ABOUT PRODUCTION? meets in Barcelona distinguished professionals with diverse and complementary experience in the field of audiovisual production, in order to discuss the greatest variety of forms, structures and models of visual art production.
Articulated in six discussion panels curated by its respective moderators, the professional forum for discussion aims to review different platforms and production strategies, identify challenges and outline future prospects by sharing the experiences of the participants. The different tables have been curated and moderated by Bartomeu Marí (Director of MACBA), Luis Miñarro (Director of film producer Eddie Saeta), Mark Coetzee (Director of PUMAVision and chief curator PUMACreative), Davide Quadrio (Director Art and founder of Asia Hub), Maria Ruido (artist and professor at the University of Barcelona) and María Mur Dean (Director of Consonni, Bilbao).

In Untitled Bcn showing from 6 to 11 February, which is a production of art, which is based on immaterial production work consonni advocates and what their projects are developed and those to come. Processes immaterial production of contemporary art.

The figure of the production hardly exists as a mediating agent in an unstructured system of art. And yet, paradoxically, the word production is taking a leading role in art, but not always in the intangible sense consonni claimed, and rarely as praxis and reflection to the same time. During the workshop, we undressed the work processes involving the immaterial production, understood as a process of communication. Communication in the work team, with the artists, with society, with institutions, with the local context, with the art world, or even conscious isolation and silence...
Taking as guiding these processes, we show some concrete projects that exemplify what we speak: from Exercises in the north side, developed with Ibon Aramberri, Stay inside and close the windows, with Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum, Little Frank and his carp of Andrea Frasser, all produced by consonni.

The words structures, networks and collectives are separated by hyphens in the title; they are ideas which, in principle, have nothing in common, but their broad semantic fields conjure up images and lead us to ask questions about their internal connections and their true meaning in our sphere of work.
The structures of the artistic institution have become complex, in view of the fact that the circumstances relating to production have developed towards new territories far beyond the scope of the different disciplines. It is no longer possible to understand production unrelated to a new critical environment that reveals how work, politics and art coincide in the same attitude.
The progressive inflation of the idea of network makes us wonder to what extent it affects our creative project and our life. It would seem that negotiating the creative anxiety arising from the fascination with new technological possibilities is indispensable for recovering “the lost interval”.
Therefore, collective work, as a fundamental element of a new concept of production, of a revised notion of author, of a flexible concept of subjectivity and of an intellectually active network questions the individualistic logic promoted by today’s society, which is most explicitly reflected in art markets.

Arteleku, the cultural association Synmarc and the culture management company Amasté organised the first edition of Dinamik(tt)ak, art summer camps directed at teenagers. Ten of them were awarded a grant to cover their participation, and food and accommodation in Arteleku. They were given the chance to become familiar with the professionalisation of contemporary art with the help of the people working on different cultural projects. Also explained to them were the challenges to be faced and how to extend creativity to communication and financing functions.
In this respect, apart from Ubiqua, Iñaki Imaz, Mikel Arbiza, Xaiber Erkiza, My Jok, Julio Cesar Palacios, Saioa Olmo and Pripublikarrak, consonni provided an overview of its projects and experience to date, while they cooked, dined and breakfasted with these teenagers. Between courses, workshops and camps, the youngsters visited workshops, museums, culture halls and culture management companies in Vitoria- Gasteiz, Bilbao and Donostia.
Dinamik(tt)ak is part of the programme "I’m almost 18", a project about young people today designed by themselves.

consonni was present at the table organised by Amasté and directed by Ricardo Antón: "New markets for art in the culture marketing era". El Gabinete de Iniciativa Jóven from Extremadura, mmmm... from Madrid, Martí Guixé, Y Productions and Javier Creus from Catalonia completed the round table dealing with new production systems, culture consumption habits or channels for the diffusion of contemporary art.

One of the objectives of the debate is to assess the new forms in which contemporary art can form part of local environments. The other is to determine through discussion what characteristics and conditioning factors are required of spaces for visual arts. The debate is therefore an invitation to take part in a project for a visual arts space to be constituted on the basis of activities such as this one.
The idea underlying these working seminars is that lost time cannot be made up by emulating the audience education processes implemented by major institutions in recent years, but rather by projecting strategies for the future that link cultural and environmental values.
The speakers in the debate on "Art in a Future Situation" will present to the audience a range of specialist, institutional and collective practices that may serve to inspire work immediately in certain directions. The debating sessions open to the public will help generate a working agenda that can be assumed by a space devoted to the visual arts.
With Carles Guerra as commissioner and Dziga as producer, the event will feature Manuel Olveira, Mizien (Jorge Mestre & Ivan Bercedo), Franck Larcade, Georges Yúdice, El sueño colectivo (Montse Romani, María Ruido & Virginia Villaplana), Perejaume and Marta Gili.

While galleries exhibit works of art and represent artists, consonni works with the artists, representing specific projects. consonni's participation at FAIR was therefore exceptional and represented a challenge. The benefits consisted of the media impact and the dissemination of consonni's image.

consonni was invited to participate in a framework of reflection on the structural changes in the visual arts in the transition towards a new culture, seeking to determine the new emerging profile of art.
Today's prevailing artistic horizon at present was established in the 1970s. The proposals of this trend are being creatively extended but at the same time we are witnessing a transition to something new. This new situation is mainly the result of the increasing contamination of art by technology. Through the spectacular development of electronic and digital media, we are headed towards a cultural horizon that will inevitably be different, in which art will have to enter new territories and tackle qualitatively different media and materials.

On the occasion of the Quam2000 Forum, consonni was invited to participate in a debate on the space of distribution: financing, facilities and cultural policies.
From 1997 to 1999, the Quam debates focused on new technologies in artistic creation. Using this material, the Quam2000 Forum centred on analysis, reflection and debate, and also sought to bring about intervention and transformation. In this edition the practical workshops were replaced by a forum for debate.
